Are you sitting on the couch, and you really need to send a text to someone, and your smartphone is sitting w-a-a-a-a-a-y over there on the coffee table? Have no fear! If you’re an AT&T subscriber who happens to own an Amazon Echo or Dot you can now send text messages by just using your voice.
The AT&T Send Message skill is ideal if you’re in a hurry or busy with your hands. Just ask Alexa to have AT&T text your friend and then Alexa will prompt you to say your text message. You can add up to ten frequent contacts to the skill so can send them text messages without typing on your smartphone.
Just say, “Alexa, ask AT&T to text <contact name>,” and Amazon’s virtual assistant will walk you through dictating and sending the message. There are a few gotchas, as you can only send a message to one of ten contacts, which you have to setup in the Alexa app for your smartphone. Plus, you’ll need to be subscribing to a compatible plan, and own a compatible device. And of course, you’ll need to own an Amazon Echo or Dot device. (You can find them on Amazon, they even have refurbished Echo’s fer cheap!)
You can find out more information, and even purchase an Alexa-enabled device, at the AT&T website.
