AppleInsider reports Apple has issued an update to its Boot Camp drivers, including the audio driver that was causing loud, random “pops” that led to damage for the new MacBook Pro’s speakers.
AppleInsider has confirmed that users who have installed Boot Camp since 1 p.m. Nov. 23 should already have the updated drivers. Older installations may require the user to manually run an Apple software update process from within the Windows installation.
Some owners of the new MacBook Pro were experiencing loud popping noises in their laptop’s speakers when using Windows under Boot Camp. The issue was caused by an outdated Windows audio driver in Boot Camp. Users who didn’t use Windows under Boot Camp, or ran it under Parallels or a similar solution, didn’t experience the issue.
A number of users have reported their MacBook Pro speakers have been permanently damaged as a result of the pops. AppleInsider reports Apple informed them that users who experienced physical speaker damage in their computer should contact AppleCare phone support to document the issue. They should then make a Genius Bar appointment to have their MacBook Pro assessed and possibly repaired.
