Trademark Filing Indicates New MacBook Pro’s OLED Touch Panel will be Called ‘Magic Toolbar’

A trademark filing indicates the OLED touch bar that is rumored to be the headlining feature of Apple’s upcoming MacBook Pro refresh will be called the “Magic Toolbar.”

Trademark agent Brian Conroy (aka The Trademark Ninja), reports that name was registered in February in the computer hardware category by a dummy corporation named Presto Apps America LLC, which was incorporated just two weeks before the filing.

Conroy notes two reason that make him believe Apple is behind the filing.

  1. Apple already owns the trademarks for Magic Mouse, Magic Trackpad and Magic Keyboard, so another company would be foolish to spend money ($17,500 USD) to register a trademark Apple could easily contest on that basis alone.
  2. The lawyers listed on the Magic Toolbar application are the same firm that applied for the “AirPod” trademark.

Conroy’s arguments make sense, don’t ya think? Plus, Apple is just plain partial to that whole “Magic” naming thing. We’ll find out for sure next Thursday. (We’re keeping our fingers crossed for a new Magic Keyboard with the Magic Toolbar built-in.)

Apple will be holding a media event on Thursday, October 27. they will be livestreaming the event, and MacTrast will provide live coverage of the debut of the new machines, so be here at 10:00AM Pacific/1:00PM Eastern Time for all the fun.
