Re/code reported on Tuesday that Apple will debut new Macs at a media event that will take place on Thursday, October 27. The report says the event will be held “at or near” Apple’s Cupertino campus, likely at the company’s Town Hall conference center.
Re/code does not detail which Macs will receive a refresh at the event, but Apple’s entire Mac lineup, aside from the Retina MacBook, is in need of a refresh.
A major update of the aging MacBook Pro lineup has been long rumored, with reports indicating the revamped laptop will boast a number of changes, such as a thinner body, a MacBook-style keyboard, Touch ID support, and an OLED touch panel replacing the usual row of physical function keys at the top of the keyboard.
Some reports indicate the new laptop will do away with most of the ports present on the current MacBook Pro, including the USB-A ports, the HDMI port, and SD card slot. The new Pro will instead boast four USB-C ports which will support USB 3.1 and Thunderbolt 3.
A 13-inch MacBook Air is also rumored to be ready to debut, also boasting USB-C and Thunderbolt 3 compatibility. The 11-inch MacBook Air is rumored to be on its way out.
If the rumored Apple media event will indeed take place next Thursday, October 27, we should be seeing media invitations from the company sometime this week. The week would prove to be a busy one for the Cupertino firm, as the fiscal Q4 2016 earnings are scheduled to be reported on Tuesday, October 25.
When contacted by Re/code, Apple declined to comment on the report.
