A report from Makotakara today backs up an August KGI Securities letter that claims three new iPads are on the way. The new report indicates three new iPad Pro models are soon to be announced, although some of the details are a bit different from the August report.
Makotakara supports the idea of a slightly larger standard-sized iPad Pro, though it suggests the diagonal screen size will be 10.1 rather than 10.5 inches. The larger screen size will be achieved by making the external dimensions 1cm longer and 0.5cm wide, it says.
While there had been rumors that Apple might do away with the iPad mini lineup, due to the popularity of the Cupertino firm’s iPhone “Plus” handsets, The report says a new mini is on the way, which will be adopted into the “Pro” iPad lineup.
iPad mini 4 will renew as iPad Pro (7.9-inch), get Smart Connector, and change into the specification of 4 speakers audio. Also, the iSight camera of 12 million pixels, True Tone flash, and True Tone display correspondence to Display P3 [DCI-P3 wider color gamut aka True Tone display] seem to be adopted.
The 12.9-inch iPad Pro will get a camera upgrade to the same 12MP camera and True Tone flash, and True Tone display as the current 9.7-inch iPad Pro.
As Apple dropped the 3.5mm headphone socket from their iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus handsets this year, some observers had wondered aloud if the new iPads would follow suit. However, today’s report indicates all three new iPads will retain the headphone socket. There was no mention in the report if the new model iPads would retain a mechanical Home button, or if they would adopt the pressure-sensitive version that debuted with the release of the iPhone 7.
Makotakara indicates the new iPads will begin shipping sometime around Spring 2017.
As usual, we suggest our readers take reports like this as what they are, simply rumors, and should be swallowed and digested with a dash their favorite low-sodium brand of seasoning. (MacTrast – The Apple Tech Website That Cares About Your Health.)
