New iPhone 7 Lineup Already Ranking at 3.7% of all Apple Handsets in Use

Just a few weeks after its debut, Apple’s latest flagship devices, the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus, are already in more iPhone users’ hands than the iPhone SE. The new handsets are only 0.2 percentage points from overtaking the venerable iPhone 4 series.

AppleInsider:

Localytics tracked iPhone usage rates two weeks after the debut of the iPhone 7, and its data places the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus at a 3.6 percent share of all Apple handsets in use. That’s enough to put it ahead of the iPhone SE, which was tracked at a 2.6 percent share.

The iPhone 7/7 Plus should quickly overtake the iPhone 4 series, which consists of the iPhone 4 and iPhone 4s models, which together account for 3.7% of iPhones currently in use. it’ll take a bit more time for the new handsets to overtake the iPhone 5/iPhone 5s handsets, as they account for an estimated 24.4% of all active Apple handsets.

The iPhone 6s lineup holds a no-sweat second place in the standings with 27.5% of all iPhones in use. The leader among all Apple handsets is the iPhone 6/6 Plus, which has a nice 38.3% of all ears listening to a call on an Apple handset.

While iPhone buyers may have not seen the iPhone 6s as enough of a reason to upgrade from their iPhone 6 handsets, the iPhone 7 may fare better:

… A survey conducted by Bank of America Merrill Lynch Research Group, revealed that the top three reasons consumers are upgrading to either the iPhone 7 and 7 Plus are related to noticeable differences from the iPhone 6 models. Every iPhone user will always be looking for longer battery life, which the ‘7’ models definitely offer. The fact that they are also waterproof and have superior cameras could be a big part of what is setting the ‘7’ models apart from the rest of the pack.
