Last week’s iOS 10.0.2 release brought good news for users of the Kevo smart lock. Kwikset has announced that the bug causing loss of full functionality of the lock’s “touch to open” feature was fixed in the new release of Apple’s mobile operating system.
Thank you for your patience while we worked with Apple on a solution for the iOS 10 Software Update bug. We’re pleased to share that Touch-to-Open® functionality is fully restored with Apple’s iOS 10.0.2 update, which was released last week. Upon downloading the latest iOS update, you will be able to use your Kevo lock with the app running in the background. You no longer have to have the Kevo app open and visible on the phone screen when you touch to lock or unlock the Kevo smart lock.
Prior to last week’s release, a bug in iOS 10 caused the Kevo smart lock to lose some of its popular “touch-to-open” functionality. The issue involved the Bluetooth “peripheral mode,” which allowed users to touch the lock to unlock it, even if the Kevo app wasn’t open and visible on their iPhone.
While waiting for a promised fix, Kevo users were forced to bring the Kevo app up on their device before using the touch-to-open feature. iOS 10 users can update to iOS 10.0.2 by going to “Settings” -> “General” -> “software Update,” and following the onscreen prompts. The Kevo smart lock is available for $229.
