October is on the way, which means one thing: Oktoberfest! Which means, street closings for the inevitable street festivals in your town. Google’s traffic conditions/navigation app Waze will now offer its users a handy warning about such event-related road closures.
TNW:
The company has launched its Waze Global Event Partner Program, which will allow event organizers and venue owners to share information about road closures in advance or in real-time, so that users of the app can avoid those routes and cut down on the time they spend in traffic.
The nav service says it’s kicking off the program with 20 inaugural partners spanning North America, Latin America, Eastern Europe, and Asia, including:
-
E15 and its five professional sports team partners: Atlanta Falcons (Georgia Dome), Washington Redskins (FedEx Field), Detroit Lions (Ford Field), Washington Nationals (Nationals Park), and Atlanta Hawks (Phillips Arena).
-
Rock ‘n’ Roll Marathon Series’ 30 global events, including New York, Montreal, Mexico City, and Madrid.
In order to encourage participation by event organizers, it will be free for event organizers to list their festival, marathon, street fight, or other road-blocking event with the service.
Waze users who want to see if any events are coming up in their area should visit www.waze.com/events. To learn more, and/or become a partner, visit www.waze.com/eventpartners.
