We’ve heard reports that the upcoming 5.5-inch iPhone 7 Plus will boast 3GB of RAM, and new report released today agrees with those previous reports. DigiTimes says the big new iPhone will indeed carry 3GB of RAM for improved performance.
DigiTimes:
Increasing built-in memory capacity at next-generation smartphones, including new iPhone devices, will further ramp up demand for memory products in the third quarter, said sources, noting that the mobile DRAM capacity of the next-generation iPhone is expected to increase to 3GB from 2GB previously.
The DigiTimes report admittedly comes from a publication with a mixed track record for such rumors, but they do jibe with previous predictions, including one from respected KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, who has twice mentioned the new 5.5-inch iPhone would boast 3GB or RAM for more working space.
Current iPhone models, the iPhone 6s, iPhone 6s Plus, and iPhone SE all contain 2GB of RAM. At this point in time, we haven’t heard anything about a RAM bump for the 4.7-inch iPhone 7, but we’ll keep our ears tuned for any reports.
An increase in RAM would aid the iPhone by boosting its performance in processor intense activities such as processing data for the expected new dual-lens camera on the iPhone 7 Plus. We’ll keep you posted.
