Hyundai announced on Monday that it is extending CarPlay and Android Auto support to additional 2015 and 2016 Hyundai vehicles. Owners of 2016 Sonata Hybrid, Sonata Plug-in Hybrid, Veloster, and 2015 and 2016 Azera models can now install the free, manual software update via the company’s MyHyundai site.
Hyundai has helpfully supplied a video and manuals on how to install the update yourself. To complete the software upgrade, owners will need their VIN number and the SD card from their Navigation system. If you’re not up to it, your friendly Hyundai dealer will be glad to install it for a fee.
If you’re in the market for a new vehicle, the South Korean auto maker has also announced its new 2017 Santa Fe and Santa Fe Sport now include CarPlay, as will the rest of its 2017 models with compatible in-dash systems.
“We are very pleased to be able to expand the availability of multimedia system updates to the owners of these additional vehicles,” said Barry Ratzlaff, executive director, digital business planning and connected operations, Hyundai Motor America. “Delivering the update through the MyHyundai.com owner website has proven to be an effective way to support Hyundai owners.”
Earlier this month, the company announced CarPlay support for its latest vehicles, including 2017 Sonata and Tuscon models. Models that already support the update include 2015 and 2016 Sonata and Genesis models, 2016 Elantra GT and Tucson models, and the 2017 Santa Fe and Santa Fe Sport models.
