iPhone and Apple Watch owners will be able to use Apple Pay to pay for their delicious chicken sandwiches at all Chick-fil-A restaurants beginning Friday, August 19.
Chick-fil-A revealed the coming NFC payments integration in a message posted to its official Twitter account, confirming in-restaurant and drive thru support of both Apple Pay and Android Pay transactions. While the company did not specify a launch market, AppleInsider has received reports of sporadic compatibility at multiple outlets, suggesting Friday’s rollout could be nationwide.
The popular poultry-pushing restaurant chain announce in February that it intended to support Apple’s mobile payments solution at its cash registers. While the rollout was expected to begin shortly following the announcement, it has taken until now for the chain to get all their ducks (chickens?) in a row. Chick-fil-A isn’t the pullet provider to officially support Apple Pay, as rival KFC flipped the switch back in June.
Apple has steadily added banks and credit unions to its Apple Pay support rolls, while adoption by major merchants has been much slower. Things are looking up however, as Apple CEO Tim Cook recently noted that the payments service is now accepted at more than 11 million points of sale worldwide, and monthly Apple Pay use is up 400% from the same time last year.
