Apple has added banners to its U.S. website, iTunes Store, and App Store to encourage customers to make a donation to the American Red Cross to help support relief efforts for those affected by the widespread flooding in southern Louisiana.
Donations can be made in the amounts of $5, $10, $25, $50, $100 and $200. All proceeds from the donations will be sent to the American Red Cross. Donations can be made in the form of a handy iTunes or App Store purchase.
The flooding in Louisiana began last week in the wake of torrential rainfall in the area. So far, over 40,000 houses have been damaged, leaving thousands without homes. More than 20 parishes in the state have been affected, and rebuilding efforts will be hampered because of the lack of flood insurance by residents, due to the fact the areas were not known flood zones.
Apple has a history of similar disaster relief efforts. The company has collected donations for the Red Cross in areas affected by fires, earthquakes, hurricanes, and other tragedies.
