Apple’s Phil Schiller Named to DNA Sequencing Firm’s Board of Directors

Apple’s head marketer, Phil Schiller, has been named to the board of directors of DNA sequencing and array-based technologies company Illumina. The company announced the move today.

“Phil’s track record and global experience in bringing world-class products to market will help guide us as we continue to develop innovative new solutions for our customers,” said Francis deSouza, Illumina President and Chief Executive Officer. “His vision, integrity and passion are fully aligned with Illumina’s core values.”

Schiller, who has over 30 years of marketing and management experience, with over 25 of those year spent at Apple. Schiller joined Apple’s senior executive team when late co-founder Steve Jobs returned to the company in 1997.  Schiller has been a part of various marketing campaigns for such Apple products as the Mac, iPhone, iTunes, iPhone, and more. He took over management of all of the Apple App Stores back in December of last year.

Schiller previously served as the as the Vice President of Product Marketing at Macromedia, Inc. of San Francisco, Calif.; as the Director of Product Marketing at FirePower Systems, Inc. of Menlo Park, Calif.; as an Information Technology Manager at Nolan,  Norton & Company of Lexington, Mass.; and as a Programmer and Systems Analyst at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston. He graduated with a B.S. in biology from Boston College.
