Photos shared by Cult of Mac show what may be components for Apple’s much-rumored new MacBook Pro. The photos show what appears to be the body of a 13-inch MacBook Pro, sporting a slightly thinner profile, a spot for a rumored OLED touch panel, and four USB-C ports. The photos came from an anonymous source that claims to work for an Apple supply partner in China.
KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo recently predicted Apple’s new MacBook Pro will boast an OLED touch panel above the keyboard, in the area where today’s Pro has a row of function keys. The photos appear to support that prediction, as the top row of function keys are absent in the photos
The model in the photos appears to be a bit thinner than today’s MBPros, and in side shots of the device, there are two USB-C ports on the left side, and another pair on the right-hand side. A headphone jack is present, as are speaker grills on both sides of the keyboard.
Rumors have long suggested Apple is working on a revamped MacBook Pro lineup, that is said to be thinner and lighter than today’s models, and which will boast an OLED display touch bar in place of the current function keys. A dedicated Touch ID sensor and support for Thunderbolt 3 and USB-C are also expected to be included.
Ming-Chi Kuo says to expect the new MacBook Pros sometime in the fourth quarter of 2016, and he expects them to be the “most significant upgrade ever undertaken by Apple.”
Of course, the veracity of the above photos can’t be verified, and any reports like this are simply rumors until Apple makes an official announcements, so adjust your hopes and dreams accordingly.
