Discovered iOS 10 Features: Prioritize App Downloads Using 3D Touch

We’re a few weeks into the iOS 10 beta, and new features are still being discovered. One such new jam is the ability to prioritize app downloads using 3D Touch on iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus devices.

Discovered by Reddit user nite_, the new feature allows users who are downloading a large number of apps at once – such as from an iCloud device backup, or a large queue of app updates from the App Store – to use a 3D Touch press on a downloading app’s icon to temporarily pause the installation of the other apps, while the selected app downloads and installs itself.

Previously, users were required to tap the icon of every downloading app to pause them, in order to gain favor for a needed app. The new feature should bring joy to users who may have need of a certain app, but are waiting on an iCloud restore, or massive App Store update to finish.

As usual, it should be mentioned that this feature was found in a beta version of iOS 10, so there is no guarantee that it will make it into the final version of iOS 10 when it is released to the public later this year.

iOS 10 Public Beta

iOS 10 is currently in the developer-only beta testing phase, but July will see an expansion of the beta test of both iOS 10 and macOS Sierra to Apple’s public beta testing program. Users interested in joining the Apple Public Beta Testing program should visit the Apple website for more information.
