We told you on Wednesday how Netflix has finally begun supporting picture in picture mode on the iPad, so, in true MacTrast fashion, today we’re going to quickly show you how to disable the picture in picture feature.
Sure, picture in picture is a great feature, but there may be those among us who find it distracting, or might even accidentally enter the mode from time to time. Plus, it can be distracting if your kids are supposed to be studying on the iPad, and are instead watching Fireball XL5, or whatever it is the kids these days watch.
How To: Disable Picture in Picture Video Overlay on an iPad
From the iPad in question, you simply need to do the following, as seen in the screenshot above:
- Open the “Settings” app and go to the “General” options menu.
- Tap “Multitasking”
- Tap the switch next to “Persistent Video Overlay” to flip it to the OFF position. (When the switch is toggled to “OFF”, it will appear as it does in the screenshot above.)
- Exit the Settings app, and forget about the possibilities of watching reruns of 30 Rock while you work on that important spreadsheet for your boss. (Relax, if you have withdrawal symptoms, just follow the above steps a second time, and you’ll turn it right back on. (You’ll want to make the switch turn green this time.))
With The “Persistent Video Overlay” turned off, the next time you exit Netflix or another video app, the video will stop playing, just like it did in previous versions of iOS.
