The Apple TV’s universal search function now includes support for streaming apps from the Bravo, E!, Syfy, and USA networks. The feature allows viewers to find television shows and movies across multiple apps on Apple’s fourth-generation streaming box, via text or Siri search.
Users can keep up-to-date with which apps are carrying support for universal search in the company’s dedicated support document. The four new apps today follow a steady stream of additions to universal search over the past few months, including NBC in May and CBS in April.
The Syfy, Bravo, and E! network apps were added to the Apple TV lineup just last month. All three are owned by NBCUniversal.
Apple announced it was opening up the Universal Search API for the Apple TV to developers back in October, just before the debut of the new Apple TV set top box. At launch, results were available from only iTunes, Netflix, Hulu, Showtime, and HBO.
Apple has steadily been steadily adding new apps to the Apple TV’s universal search functionality since then. With today’s new additions, U.S. users can search movies and TV shows in iTunes, Bravo, CBS, Disney Channel, Disney Jr, Disney XD, E!, FOXNOW, FXNOW, HBO GO, HBO NOW, Hulu, Nat Geo TV, NBC, Netflix, PBS, PBS Kids, SHOWTIME, SHOWTIME Anytime, Starz, Syfy, USA, Watch ABC
Viewers outside of the United States aren’t as well served, with Netflix and iTunes the only apps supported by universal search in Australia, Canada, France, Germany, and the United Kingdom. Most other countries currently only see support for iTunes.
