Amazon on Thursday confirmed it will hold its second annual one-day “Prime Day” sale event on July 12. On that day, Amazon will offer Black Friday-like deals exclusively to its members of its Amazon Prime service.
Amazon says it will offer over 100,000 deals during the Prime Day promotion, which kicks off at midnight Pacific time on the 12th. The company says its first Prime Day, held last year, broke sales records set on Black Friday 2014. The company will have new deals available “as often as every five minutes,” and expects to set a new record this year.
With 100,000 deals exclusively for Prime members, across nearly all departments and product categories in ten countries, there will be something for everyone. In fact on the first annual Prime Day in 2015, worldwide members ordered 398 items per second, exceeding Black Friday records at the time.
Customers complained last year that the best deals sold out too fast, and that many of the deals consisted of random, hard to sell items. Amazon promises to remedy that this year, with a larger inventory of items, including a much bigger offering of televisions which will be “double what it had for Black Friday and Cyber Monday combined last year.”
The company will be sending out deal alert notifications to its members via its Amazon app. The company has posted steps showing customers how to set alerts for specific deals on the app.
Amazon Prime, is the online retail giant’s $99-per-year service which gives users access to free two-day shipping, one-hour delivery on certain orders, and access to a large music and video streaming library. Interested shoppers can sign up here for a free 30-day trial of the service.
