Apple subsidiary FileMaker has launched FileMaker 15, the new version of the company’s database platform. The app allows for easy development of customized apps, and offers a number of new features in the new version.
FileMaker 15 offers a number of mobility-related improvements, offering support for Touch ID logins, as well as support for 3D Touch Quick Actions for apps within FileMaker Go. The new version also offers support for app extensions in FileMaker Go, making it easy to move files from within projects over to other apps.
Support for iBeacons is now built-in, offering the ability to collect proximity-based data to be used in apps built with FileMaker.
When FileMaker Go is near an iBeacon you’ve previously set up, relevant information can be displayed based on data transmitted from your iBeacon. Automatically pull up information for a self-guided tour, product descriptions at the point of sale, the location of inventory in a warehouse, and more.
FileMaker WebDirect allows mobile device users to access FileMaker apps via a web browser, optimizing the user interface for access from smaller devices. iOS and Android devices are supported by WebDirect.
A refreshed user interface offers a more modern look for toolbars, and new starter solutions offer examples such as contact management and inventory management apps, which can then be customized for specific projects.
As well as the new mobile features and improved interface, the new database app offers a new focus on automation and integration, with highlighting of script errors, undo scripting functionality, and a new feature that allows SQL sources to be embedded like native databases.
New security features offer a concealed edit box, which allows hiding sensitive information you don’t want displayed on your screen, as well as a number of security upgrades including new proactive security warnings and support for the new SSL certificate types.
FileMaker 15 offers a new subscription licensing scheme for teams, which includes FileMaker Server access for teams of five or more to access the system via any web, mobile, or desktop interfaces.
