Apple’s Taiwanese suppliers are reportedly hiring earlier than usual to ramp up production of the “more complex” iPhone 7. CNBC reports Foxconn and Pegatron are hiring earlier than usual, in order to properly train new employees to assemble the new devices.
On the website for Foxconn’s Zhenzhou, China, factory, a job advertisement on the homepage reads, “Foxconn Zhengzhou is hiring a large number of ordinary workers. Welcome to join Foxconn: Age between 18-40. Overall monthly salary: 3,800 renmimbi. Start working immediately.”
A longer version of the ad encourages workers to “hurry to apply,” and warns the company’s employment hotline might be busy, as “so many applicants are dialing in.”
A Tuesday report by the Economic Daily News noted that hiring at both Foxconn and Pegatron, two of Apple’s main assembly partners, had kicked off at least a month earlier than usual for assembly of Apple’s iPhones.
The new iPhone should debut sometime in September, and Apple is expected to launch an iPhone 7 handset, as well as a larger iPhone 7 Plus handset. A number of reports have indicated the iPhone 7 Plus could be called the iPhone 7 Pro, and may feature an advanced two lens camera system.
The Economic Daily News reported the design of the upcoming iPhone was “more complex” than that of previous models, and that’s why suppliers are gearing up earlier than usual, as new staff will need more training to assemble the iPhone 7 than was needed for previous models.
