Premium Cable Network Starz Announces Standalone Streaming Subscriptions on Apple TV and iOS

Premium cable network Starz has announced a new standalone monthly streaming subscription service that will be available on iOS devices, the Apple TV, and Android devices.

Starz’s subscription service will be similar to fellow premium networks HBO and Showtime, but will be available for a cheaper $8.99 per month. HBO and Showtime currently charge $14.99 and $10.99 respectively for their standalone subscription streaming services.

The new streaming app can be authenticated as a companion piece to a traditional Starz subscription via a cable provider, or purchased separately for cable cutters.

The standalone service allows for up to four users to watch simultaneously and offers virtually unlimited downloads for offline viewing. The new app is available today through the App Store for iPhone, iPad, iPod touch and Apple TV, with the app supporting universal search through the Siri Remote.

The network will make the first episode of the second season of its popular Outlander series available on April 7th, (two days before its official premier), to any of the app’s users.

The Starz app is available as a free download on the fourth-generation Apple TV and in the iOS App Store. [GET IT HERE]
