Apple Posts New 15-Second Earth Day Spot Starring Siri and Liam the Recycling Robot

Apple has posted another Earth Day-related ad spot. The 15-second video stars Apples virtual assistant, Siri, and Liam, the company’s recycling robot.

In the video, Liam has grabbed another iPhone for recycling, when Siri activates on the device and asks the robot what it is doing for Earth Day. The query is met with a robotic shrug, as Liam then readies itself to tear the iPhone down for recycling. In a last ditch effort for survival, Siri suggest they get organic smoothies. We don’t want spoil the ending for you, but let’s just say smoothies were NOT had by all.

The spot is the second Earth Day related spot released by Apple in the last 24 hours. The other spot is the Renewable Energy” ad, where the company promotes its iMessage service, and how it actually helps the environment, due to the data centers Apple uses for the service are 100% run on renewable energy.

You can also ask Siri about Liam, and she responds with various humorous quips.:

Liam was first introduced to the world at Apple’s March media event. The robot can disassemble old iPhones, and remove and recover recyclable materials, such as cobalt and lithium from the battery, gold and copper from the camera, silver and platinum from the main logic board, and more.

Last week, many Apple Store locations changed the leaf portion of their store logo to green, in celebration of Earth Day, which is a tradition for the company. Also last week, a special App Store section called “Apps for Earth” launched promoting 27 apps, of which the proceeds of sales will be shared with the World Wildlife Fund.
