While iOS 9.3 has had its share of early teething problems, Apple’s new mobile operating system is showing a lower crash rate than any other active iOS build, says California-based analytics firm Apteligent.
This may come as a surprise to some observers, as iOS 9.3 has had its share of issues, including a bug that rendered older devices unusable, and the most recently reported problem of weblinks causing crashes in iOS apps such as Mail, Messages, and Safari.
The firm says that over the past few days, iOS 9.3 has shown a crash rate of only 2.2%, making it the most stable iOS version currently in use. (The firm compared 9.3 to iOS 8, 9.0, 9.1, and iOS 9.2.) The new iOS version even shows a lower crash rate than the latest version of Android Marshmallow, which stands at 2.6%.
Apteligent has pulled data from the recent iOS 9.3 update:
- Despite this bug, iOS 9.3 stands as Apple’s most stable new release in years.
- The average crash rate over the past eight days is 2.2%, by far the most stable iOS version. For the sake of comparison, that’s better than any current Android release, including the most recent Android Marshmallow, which stands at 2.6%.
- The adoption rate is faster than iOS 8 but similar to iOS 9.0, which currently stands at about 37.5% of devices.
The firm also predicts iOS 9.3 will hit 50% adoption by April 14th, while Android updates continue to be stalled with Marshmallow at about 10% adoption.
