When I bought my Apple Watch a few months ago, I thought I got a good deal on it by getting it for $100 less than retail. However, some companies are giving their employees an even better deal. How’s $25 for a Watch sound? But, there is one healthy catch…
In an effort to make their work force a bit healthier, a company named Vitality is giving their employees the option to buy an Apple Watch for just $25. However, the catch is that the employees must meet certain health objectives over the next two years. If they don’t, they have to pay the full amount for the Apple Watch.
The Wall Street Journal notes that other companies are also offering similar Apple Watch-based incentives, they include pharmaceutical company Amgen, insurance company Lockton, and DaVita HealthCare Partners.
Such programs are a by-product of the Affordable Care act, which is spurring companies to offer incentives to employees that agree to live a healthier lifestyle. Many companies offer free or discounted gym memberships, free “wellness” programs, and other incentives. Such as a $25 Apple Watch.
Vitality employees need to “meet certain individualized fitness goals, such as walking 10,000 steps a day or logging a certain number of minutes or cardio during a given period,” in order to keep the price of their new Watch at it’s rock-bottom cost.
Employees who don’t make the effort will see $13.50 per month taken out of their paycheck until the Apple Watch is paid for. Why, that’s a bag of chips, and a month of Netflix! Or, is that the wrong way to look at it?
