Apple never goes into details about such things as RAM in its iOS devices, so we usually have to wait for a teardown, or some type of benchmark to be run before we get an inside look at the stats on the latest devices.
TechCrunch’s Matthew Panzarino has access to a new iPad Pro, and an iPhone SE, and ran a memory checking app to see what’s what. Based on his results, both the iPhone SE, and the 9.7-inch iPad Pro have 2GB of RAM available.
The results put the iPhone SE on par with the iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus, RAM-wise, and the 9.7-inch iPad Pro comes in a distant second to it’s big brother, with just half the 4GB of RAM that’s in the 12.9-inch iPad Pro.
As for processor speeds, the iPhone SE keeps up with it’s bigger siblings, the iPhone 6s and 6s Plus. The new device’s A9 processor runs at 1.85GHz, and turned in Geekbench scores on par, or slightly better than the iPhone 6s. (A single-core score of 2538 and a multi-core score of 4421.)
The 9.7-inch iPad Pro doesn’t fare as well, as it features a slightly underclocked A9X processor, which means its performance lags a bit behind its larger sibling.
Apple’s iPad comparison page lists the specs of the A9X in both of the iPad Pros, offering comparisons to the A7 chip in the iPad Air, iPad mini 2/3, and iPhone 5s. The 12.9-inch iPad Pro shows a 2.5x faster CPU and 5x faster graphics, while the 9.7-inch iPad Pro shows a 2.4x faster CPU and 4.3x faster graphics.
