If you’ve ever wondered which apps you have already bought for you Apple TV, but haven’t actually downloaded to your little black box, you’re in luck. A “Not on This Apple TV” category has been added to the tvOS App Store.
The new category functions in much the same way as it does on iOS: it shows apps which have been purchased by the iTunes account linked to the Apple TV, but which have not been downloaded to that Apple TV. Obviously, only apps with Apple TV versions are listed.
The new category is another small step forward as Apple continually strives to improve the user experience on the fourth-generation Apple TV. With a reported 400 apps being added to the tvOS App Store each week, app discoverability is rapidly becoming an issue.
The situation will improve with the public release of tvOS 9.2, currently in beta testing by developers. The new operating system will offer voice dictation, Bluetooth keyboard, and app folders support, which will make it easier for users to navigate through the ever-growing number of apps in the App Store. But for now, the addition of the new “Not on This Apple TV” category will make life a bit easier for users.
