As they did at this time last year, Google is giving away 2GB of free Google Drive storage space to those users who go through a brief account security checkup. Sure, 2GB isn’t much, but free Google Drive space is always a good deal.
The checkup will take less than a minute to review things like your two-step verification settings, account recovery information, and which apps have access to your Google account. Once you’re done you’ll be rewarded with 2GB of permanent Drive space.
Google wants checking your security settings to become an annual thing, so they’ll give you the 2GB free space, even if you claimed it last year. The promotion is Google’s way of participating in Safer Internet Day 2016, which is celebrated today, February 9.
Safer Internet Day, an international education and awareness-raising effort spanning more than 100 countries around the globe.
“Our plan is to make each Safer Internet Day U.S. (SID U.S.) a highly collaborative project that promotes the efforts of Internet users of all ages, interests and backgrounds to make the Internet a better place and the world a better place with the help of the Internet. This year we are featuring the good deeds and leadership of young people in “playing your part for a better Internet,” the EC’s theme for SID 2016.”
In order to claim your free 2GB of Google Drive space, visit Google’s account security checkup and perform the various checks.
