Apple Pay is now available at over 2 million retailers across the United States, and on Friday reached another milestone. Apple’s contactless payment plan is now offered to customers of 1,000 U.S. credit and debit card issuers.
Apple hit the total by adding 32 more entries to its roster, the new ones consisting of mostly of smaller regional institutions. Technically the company only has 998 banks and credit unions, but other issuers include retailers BJ’s Wholesale Club and Kohl’s.

Apple announced earlier this week that Apple Pay is now accepted at over 2 million locations in the United States. While that number sounds huge, it is but a small fraction of the actual number of retailers in the country. However, the situation continues to improve, as new merchants, including Au Bon Pain, Crate & Barrel, Chick-fil-A, JCPenney, Starbucks, and KFC, are coming on board in 2016.
Apple Pay expanded to the United Kingdom, Australia, and Canada in 2015, and Apple is set to expand the service to China, Hong Kong, Singapore, and Spain in 2016.
