If you’ve been holding off on buying a fourth-generation Apple TV because you’re waiting until refurbished units are available, start limbering up your mouse-clicking finger. Apple has added refurbished models of the set-top streamer to its online refurbished products listings.
The base model with 32GB storage is available for $129, compared to its regular $149 price, while the 64GB model costs $169, down from $199. The total savings are between $20 and $30.
If you shop around, you can find slightly better prices for both the 32GB and 64G models, MacRumors notes that RadioShack is currently selling brand new 32GB and 64GB models bundled with an HDMI cable online for only $119.98 and $169.98 respectively. (Shipping will cost you $5.95.)
Some folks prefer a refurbished version of a device. I myself bought my first MacBook as a refurbished model, along with my old third-generation Apple TV. Refurbished units have had whatever was wrong with them fixed, plus they’ve gone through another round of testing, and carry the same warranty, and eligibility for AppleCare coverage, as the new units.
Released last October, the fourth-generation Apple TV boasts a powerful A8 processor, a touch-based remote control, Siri Voice Control with Universal Search, a new App Store for the new tvOS operating system, and much-increased storage space.
