A pair of new YouTube videos allegedly show China UnionPay cards for a purchase at McDonalds, and an in-app purchase via the app for the Chinese travel agency, Ctrip.
In the first video, a customer appears able to select a UnionPay card in Apple Pay and hold his iPhone near a QuickPass-enabled Verifone payment terminal to complete a purchase at McDonald’s. The terminal says “transaction completed” and the self-checkout kiosk proceeds to print a paper receipt.
The second video shows an iPhone user selecting a China UnionPay card to complete a purchase via Apple Pay with in the Ctrip travel app. The video shows the transaction being initiated with Touch ID, and shows it being approved.
While the authenticity of the two videos hasn’t been confirmed, it has been announced that Apple is partnering with China UnionPay to bring Apple Pay to China. While no exact date has been announced for such a rollout, “early 2016” has been mentioned.
Apple Pay customers in China will be able to use the service to make payments via UnionPay QuickPass-enabled point-of-sale terminals at participating stores.
In stores, Apple Pay works with iPhone 6s, iPhone 6s Plus, iPhone 6, iPhone 6 Plus and Apple Watch. When paying within apps, Apple Pay is compatible with iPhone 6s, iPhone 6s Plus, iPhone 6, iPhone 6 Plus, iPad Air 2, iPad mini 3, iPad mini 4 and iPad Pro.
