How To Toggle the Distance Units (Miles/KM) in the Apple Watch Workout App

If you use your Apple Watch to track your workouts with the Watch’s stock Workout app, you can switch the distance units between miles and kilometers, as needed. This will come in handy if you generally track your running distance in miles, but you need to train for that big 5K race coming up, and you want to use kilometers as your measurement.

Changing the distance measurement on your Apple Watch is simple. Bu following the steps below, you can toggle the distance measurement in just a few seconds.

  1. When you’re ready to workout, open the Workout Fitness app on your Apple Watch. Select your workout type. (Running, walking, cycling, etc.)
  2. Don’t tap “Start” yet, instead, swipe over to the Distance Goal Screen, as seen in the middle screenshot above.
  3. Hard press on the screen. This will bring up the option to select Miles (MI) or Kilometers (KM), as seen on the right screenshot above. Tap the measurement unit you’d like to use.
  4. Tap “Start” to begin your workout.

That’s all it takes. Anytime you’d like to switch the measurement, just follow the above steps. The change is specific to the Workout app, and won’t affect the distance measurements units on other Watch apps, or in the iPhone Health app.
