Universal Pictures has announced it will release the Steve Jobs biopic to home video in February 2016. The film performed badly in wide release earlier this year, and was pulled from theaters ahead of schedule. The film will see a digital launch on February 2, and will hit retailer’s shelves on physical media on February 16.
Steve Jobs is an up-close-and-personal look at the founder of Apple, a remarkable creative genius whose vow to put computers in the hands of ordinary people changed the world. A “must-see, one-of-a-kind that cannot be ignored” according to Indiewire’s Anne Thompson, Steve Jobs on Blu-ray™ Combo Pack and DVD also comes with a revealing “making-of” documentary and feature commentary by the filmmakers.

While the film performed well in a two week limited run in Los Angeles and New York, leading to an expectation of good box office numbers once it went nationwide. However, the film did not do well in “flyover” country, bringing in just $16,684,073 in its first three weeks of wide release.
The film was badmouthed by many of Jobs’ closest friends and co-workers, including his widow, Laureen Powell Jobs, and current Apple CEO Tim Cook. Powell Jobs was reportedly offered a chance to be included in the film’s production, and to be on set, but her disdain for the Walter Isaacson biography – which the biopic is based on – led her to refuse the offer.
Not all of Jobs’ former colleagues were against the film, as Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak, who was a paid consultant on the film, said he believed the filmmakers “did a great job.”
