Microsoft’s Cortana virtual assistant is now available on “select” iPhone and Android devices. Microsoft says the app will be available for the Cyanogen OS later this month. Unfortunately, iOS users won’t be able to summon the assistant by saying “Hey Cortana,” because Siri is just jealous that way.
While the Cortana app is fully-featured, there are some things Cortana can do on Windows phones that aren’t currently possible with iOS or Android*. This includes toggling settings or opening apps, and the ability to invoke Cortana hands-free by saying “Hey Cortana.”
The app will likely be of great interest to Windows 10 users who use an iPhone or an Android device, as they can make a command on their Windows computer or tablet, and have it automatically reflected on their mobile device, and vice versa.

The Cyanogen OS, which powers OnePlus phones, will get the same sort of deep integration as Microsoft platforms, which includes settings controls and the ability to use “Hey Cortana” at any time. Owners will even be able to shut off their phone via voice command.
The app is available today in the U.S. and China for iPhones running iOS 8 and higher, and Android 4.1.2. The app will be available in the U.S. on One Plus One phones powered by Cyanogen OS with the 12.1.1 over-the-air update later in December.
