Apple announced on Wednesday that for the third straight year it will be offering the popular “Hour of Code” workshops and special events for kids ages six and up. The events will take place at Apple Retail stores, both in the U.S. and around the globe, during Computer Science Education Week, December 7-13.
The stores will host an “Hour of Code” free one-hour introduction to the basics of computer programming on December 10, in support of Code.org‘s campaign to encourages the teaching of basic programming techniques to millions of students around the world.
In addition to the one hour workshop on the 10th, Apple Retail stores will also be hosting six special events to be hosted by Hadi Partovi, cofounder and CEO of Code.org, Koji Sugiyama, CEO of LoiLo Inc., and others notable figures. The events, to be held at stores in Brussels, Chicago, New York City, Tokyo, San Francisco and Sydney, will each focus on app development or computer science education.
Each year, non-profit website Code.org sponsors the “Hour of Code” initiative, aimed at reaching millions of students to encourage them to learn computer programming. The Code.org website offers a number of tools for learning and teaching programming. Other “Hour of Code” partners include Amazon, Facebook, Google, Microsoft, and others.
