In a “60 Minutes” episode, set to air this Sunday, December 20, Charlie Rose interviews Apple retail chief Angela Ahrendts, who gives him a sneak peek at Apple’s “Store of the future, and also hosts a segment with the company’s chief design officer Jony Ive, deep inside Apple’s über-secret design studio.
CBS posted a pair photos to the official “60 Minutes” Twitter feed on Thursday showing Rose chatting up Ahrendts and Ive on Apple’s campus. The feature is set to air on Sunday.
While Apple normally keeps its design labs locked down tight, it does allow high-profile media outlets, such as CBS, to take a peek inside from time-to-time.
Rose also gets a peek at another highly guarded area, Apple’s mock-up of its “Store of the Future,” where Ahrendts and Rose walk through an area including brightly lit wall graphics, Apple’s iconic Jony Ive-designed wooden tables, and wide open spaces.
Ahrendts has reportedly been working with Jony Ive on a complete brand overhaul of the Apple Retail Store locations. The first of Apple’s “next-generation” retail locations opened in Brussels in September, and stores boasting similar designs are expected to begin opening around the world, including U.S. locations in San Francisco, Memphis, and Chicago.
