I finally bought an Apple Watch, so yeah, it’s time for rumors about when the “Apple Watch 2” will debut! Apple Watch supplier Quanta is said to be preparing for the debut of the new Watch by the end of the second quarter of 2016.
Details on the launch window for the next-generation Apple Watch were apparently shared by Quanta Chairman Barry Lam, according to China’s United Daily News. Lam allegedly said that he expects Apple Watch shipments to grow considerably next year, thanks to upgraded hardware and software that will launch by June 2016.
The first Apple Watch launched in April of this year. The device was initially available only in limited supplies, although Apple was able to quickly ramp up and improve availability. September saw new color options for both the Watch and its accompanying bands.
While the statements allegedly were made by Quanta Chairman Lam, the company itself has declined to officially comment, says DigiTimes. Quanta company vice chairman CC Leung did say that the company expects shipments of wearable devices could double in 2016. The company is reportedly working on expanding its production capabilities, and investors believe the bulk of that expansion will be for the Apple Watch.
This is one of surprisingly few rumors that have surfaced about the Apple Watch 2 so far, as the only one I can recall is a July report that the “Deuce” will look just like the first version, but will feature a larger battery. The rumor also mentioned improved outdoor visibility.
AppleInsider notes that a few rumors have been centered on new “smart bands” that could enhance the functionality of the first-generation Apple Watch, thus not requiring current owners to upgrade their Watch. (I vote for that one! -Ed.)
As always, this report is a rumor, and only a rumor. They come a dime a dozen, which should allow you plenty of money to shop at Penzey’s for your favorite low-sodium seasoning to sprinkle on said rumor.
