Official Plex App Now Available on Apple TV

The official Plex app for the Apple TV is now available in the App Store. The app allows access to search, playlists and more. The app requires a Plex Media Server to be setup on a local or remote network. Activating streaming for the tvOS app will run you $5 via an in-App Purchase.

9to5Mac:

Plex is a media server for video, TV shows, music and photos. The app is fully featured, with quick access to search, playlists and more from the top bar. It also tracks your currently playing items so you can quickly pick up with a show or film from where you left off. The app incorporates channel streaming of content like TED, Revision3 and more as well as video queues from YouTube and Vimeo.

The layout of the app resembles the iTunes Store layout, so the interface will be familiar.

Plex organizes all of your video, music, TV and photo collections, and streams them to all of your screens. With the free Plex Media Server on your home computer and Plex for Apple TV, you can watch and listen to all of your personal media on your Apple TV and share it with friends and family.

Plex can be downloaded on the Apple TV by searching for “Plex” in the Apple TV App Store, or by downloading it to your iOS device from iTunes, and then looking in the “Purchases” area in the Apple TV’s App Store.
