Just in time for a weekend binge session, Marvel’s Jessica Jones hits Netflix today. The new series is based on the Marvel comic Alias, and stars Krysten Ritter in the title role of Jones.
Jessica Jones is a former superhero who opens her own detective agency in New York City’s Hell’s Kitchen neighborhood after walking away form her superhero career. (Yes, it’s set in the same universe as Daredevil.) So, if you’re expecting a female superhero in a skimpy outfit with a boob window and wearing thigh-high stiletto heeled boots, you’re going to be severely disappointed.
Ritter tells Variety:
… I love she’s never using her figure, her sexuality to get what she wants, which you may see in a typical P.I. tropes. All of that. She’s such an original. I’ve never seen anything like it. When we were doing the show, before I got to see anything, I was always bugging Melissa and one of our other head writers, Scott Reynolds, like, “Tell me about show. What’s it like? What would you compare it to?” they’re like, “Nothing. It’s like nothing on television,” and I thought that was total bulls— because it sounds like a weird thing to say, but then when I saw it, I was like, “Holy s—. There’s nothing like it on television.” It’s a real thrill.

It’s so exciting. I love that I’m not in a superhero costume. It’s great, character-driven television besides being part of the Marvel world. I’m really proud of it and it’s just thrilling.
All 13 episodes of Jessica Jones are now available on Netflix, so order a couple of large pizzas, grab a 12-pack of your favorite beverage, put your phone on Do Not Disturb, and grab the remote for your Apple TV, because it’s time for a weekend binge!
