Facebook unveiled their own SDK for the Apple TV tvOS operating system earlier this week. The company says by using the Facebook SDK on tvOS, developers can provide an “immersive” social experience in their tvOS apps, including features such as login, sharing, and analytics.
One sticking point for Apple TV users is the text input function on the box. It requires users to use their Siri Remote to scroll through a long line of characters to input passwords and search strings. Facebook’s SDK for tvOS will allow users to quickly login using their Facebook credentials.
By choosing to use their Facebook credentials, users will be presented with a unique 8-digit code that they would enter into a smartphone or tablet to authorize an application. This would avoid the hassle of using the Apple Tv’s on-screen keyboard to enter login information.
The new SDK will also allow developers to implement sharing of content from their Apple TV to their Facebook accounts, including videos, photos, game scores, and more. The Facebook SDK for tvOS will also allow developers to more easily track their audience and their actions. (It is Facebook, after all…)
