Apple TV Adds Education, Health & Fitness, Lifestyle, News and Sports Categories to tvOS App Store

Slowly, but surely, Apple is beginning to straighten out the tangled web that is the tvOS App Store on their fourth-generation Apple TV. The Cupertino firm on Monday added new categories to the store’s categories, adding Education, Health & Fitness, Lifestyle, News and Sports categories to the list that previously included only two categories: Games, and Entertainment.

To view the new categories, simply launch the App Store app on your Apple TV. The new categories may still be propagating, though it may be worth trying a reboot if they don’t show up immediately.

App discovery, or rather, the lack of app discovery, on the fourth-generation Apple TV has been a hot button issue ever since the new streaming box debuted. However, it does look as if Apple is working to improve the situation.

Now, if they’ll just allow viewing of the apps and their descriptions in your Mac’s web browser, or via your iOS device, and fix the search functions, AND allow Bluetooth keyboards to be used with the box, AND… Well, you get the idea…

Released in late October, the new Apple TV boasts a powerful A8 processor, a touch-based remote control, Siri Voice Control with Universal Search, a new App Store for the new tvOS operating system, and much-increased storage space. The new model is available in two storage configurations: 32GB and 64GB, retailing for $149 and $199, respectively.

Also available in Apple Stores are the new accessories, including the new Apple TV Remote Loop, and the SteelSeries Nimbus controller.
