Did you know that it’s possible to weigh your plums using 3D Touch on an iPhone 6s/6s Plus? No, not THOSE plums, the kind you get in the produce department.
FlexMonkey’s Plum-O-Meter app shows off how sensitive Apple’s new pressure-sensitive 3D Touch capable screen is. Check out the video below, via Redmond Pie.
App creator FlexMonkey explains:
“Whenever I pull a pair of plums from the freshly delivered Fortnum & Mason’s hamper, I always try to ensure she has the larger of the two. However, this isn’t always easy, especially after the third of fourth breakfast cocktail.
3D Touch to the rescue! My latest app, the Plum-O-Meter, has been specifically designed to solve this problem. Simply place two delicious plums on the iPhone’s screen and the heavier of the two is highlighted in yellow so you can hand it to your beloved without fear of being thought of as a greedy-gut
Well, we never thought we’d be putting foodstuffs on our smartphones to measure which is the heaviest, but here we are.”
The app doesn’t display the actual weights of the plums in question, or even if one hangs lower than the other. (I told you, it’s not THOSE kind of plums! – Ed.) But it does indicate some innovative apps making use of the 3D Touch screen could be on their way.
At the moment, Plum-O-Meter is only available on jailbroken iPhones, and it may stay there, as Apple likely doesn’t want people using their iPhone to guess anything’s (or anyone’s) weight.
The Plum-O-Meter code is available for your pleasure here.
