Although Apple’s Mac is showing little or no growth, it is still outperforming the overall PC market. Two conflicting reports paint the picture of the current PC market.
Gartner has released numbers showing Apple shipped 5.6 million Macs worldwide during the third quarter of 2015. That was an increase of 1.5% over the third quarter of 2014. That was good enough for 7.6% of the market, and put Apple in fourth place in the top five, behind Lenovo, HP, and Dell. Overall, the report shows a 7.7% decline in shipments of PC. Dell was the only other company to show shipment growth, with a 0.5% increase.
Gartner’s U.S. numbers also show a rosy picture when compared to other PC makers, as Apple’s U.S. shipments grew 7.3% to 2.5 million for the quarter, well ahead of the overall U.S. market’s 1.3% growth. Apple grabbed third place in the U.S. with 14.8% of the market.
IDC’s numbers didn’t paint quite as pretty a picture for Apple, or the overall PC market, showing global shipments declining 10.8% year-over-year, while Mac shipments fell 3.4%. That still put Apple in fourth place worldwide with 7.5% of the market. As far as the U.S. goes, Mac shipments grew 1.6%, giving Apple a 13.7% share in the U.S.
Apple will give an official report of Mac shipments for the quarter on October 27, during the company’s earnings report.
