T-Mobile CEO John Legere on Tuesday held a bit of a tweet-o-rama, in which he announced a change in the Jump! On Demand upgrade program in which the magenta carrier will offer customers an iPhone 6s for as little as $5 per month.
As part of its new upgrade program, T-Mobile customers can trade in their iPhone 6 and receive an iPhone 6s for as little as $5 per month. The price increases depending on which model of the device you choose, although exact rates remain unclear at this point. If you trade in an iPhone 5s, you’ll be eligible to upgrade to an iPhone 6s for as little as $10 per month, with prices again increasing based on what variant you choose. You’ll still be eligible to upgrade up to three times per year, as well. Legere also notes that if you’ve already pre-ordered the iPhone 6s, you are still eligible for today’s new deal.
Customers who do not wish to trade-in their current iPhone can get the 16GB iPhone 6s for $20 per month for 18 months with zero dollars paid upfront, via the JUMP! On Demand program.
T-Mobile’s new offering is likely just the first of many programs we’ll see from all of the major carriers, as they attempt to compete with Apple’s new iPhone Upgrade Program.
The iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus will be available at T-Mobile beginning September 25. The new handsets support T-Mobile’s Extended Range LTE, via the 700MHz spectrum. The new spectrum extends the magenta network’s LTE signal up to twice as far as regular LTE, and also is said to work four times as well inside buildings.
