Apple will debut an updated 21.5-inch model of the iMac sporting a 4K display, in October, says 9to5Mac. The release will come alongside the release of OS X 10.11 El Capitan. The new iMac will ship to customers starting in November.

As indicated by references inside of El Capitan, the new 21.5 inch iMac’s 4K display will come with a resolution of 4096 x 2304, which is up from the current model’s screen resolution of 1920 x 1080. Faster processors and improved color saturation can also be expected.
The new screen will likely raise the price of the new iMac, similar to what happened with the introduction of the 5K display and the price of the 27-inch iMac last fall. The report says Apple may keep around the current 1080P models, as the lower-resolution 27-inch iMac is still available for sale.
A 21.5-inch Retina iMac has been anticipated ever since the discovery of code in OS X El Capitan that referenced a 21.5-inch machine with a resolution of 4096 x 2304. The code also indicated availability of Broadwell chips with Intel Iris Pro Graphics 6200 and AMD Radeon M380 & M395X discrete graphics, which could be what the new iMac’s will be equipped with.
