The Santa Fe Opera announced on Wednesday that it will premiere a new opera sometime in 2017 which details the complicated and professional life of the late Apple co-founder Steve Jobs. The new opera comes from composer Mason Bates and librettist Mark Campbell.
Titled “The (R)evolution of Steve Jobs,” the opera is planned to include characters not only from Jobs’ work life, but his personal life as well, including his father, wife, and even detail the troubled relationship with his daughter Lisa Brennan-Jobs.
The opera is set to be workshopped in September in San Francisco. The Santa Fe Opera will partner with Cal Performances at UC Berkeley and the San Francisco Conservatory of Music to put on the first show.
The new opera joins a steady stream of Jobs-related biographical books and films. Jobs and Apple have been the subject of multiple book and movies in the recent past, with the latest, Danny Boyle’s “Steve Jobs” film set for wide release on October 9, following an October 3 premiere at the 53rd Annual New York Film Festival.
