Sprint announced on Monday its new “iPhone Forever” upgrade plan, which allows Sprint customers to get a new iPhone at anytime, if they pay a $22 per month fee. (There is also a special limited time $15 per month rate available with the trade-in of an old smartphone.)
Users can now opt to pay an extra $22 per month on top of their individual unlimited or family data sharing plan, and when a new iPhone model is available, they can bring their old iPhone in and upgrade to the latest model.
Sprint is offering the new upgrade plan to compete with similar offerings available through competitors AT&T, Verizon, and T-Mobile. Sprint published a chart displaying how the new plan compares to competitors plans, as seen above.
“We asked ourselves, ‘What could we do that would move our customers forward with the latest and greatest technology every day?’ said Marcelo Claure, Sprint CEO. “We decided: How awesome would it be if anytime customers don’t have the latest iPhone, they are eligible to upgrade, and have it be as simple as handing us your existing iPhone and picking up a new one – all included in your monthly rate.”
Note: Sprint’s chart uses a special $15 promotional price for its comparisons, however that price is only available to customers who trade-in an old smartphone for a new 16GB iPhone to start. Users with trade-ins will pay a special $15 per month fee, while other users will pay a higher $22 per month fee.
