Review: Sleep Better With the 1 Voice Sleep Headphones Eye Mask

Many folks have a difficult time sleeping unless conditions are sleep-prime. For me, that means a really dark room, and sometimes with some restful music playing, or perhaps Jeff Bridges talking to me while I snooze. (More on that later.)

I enjoy taking naps on the weekends, and while I have drapes in my bedroom to block the midday light from coming in, I also have a cat who prefers his naps in on the bedroom windowsill, and this leads to a lot of light leaking in. Enter the 1 Voice Sleep Headphones Eye Mask.

Overview

The 1 Voice Sleep Headphones Eye Mask consists of an eye mask made of memory foam that is covered with a soft velvet material, which does a fine job of blocking out light, while remaining comfortable. (The mask includes an adjustable velcro strap that easily fits the mask to any sized head.)

Now if this was all there was to the 1 Voice Sleep Headphones Eye Mask, it would still be a fine product, however, as the word “Headphones” is included in the name of the product may indicate, the 1Voice can also lull you to sleep with your favorite audio. It boasts built-in over-the-ear headphones that while blocking out any outside noise, also play the audio of your choice from your MP3 player or mobile device. (Anything with a headphone jack, really.)

The headphones are also covered with a layer of memory foam, so even if you’re a side-sleeper, wearing the 1 Voice will remain comfortable while you sleep. The 1Voice’s headphones are not going to win any sound quality contests, and they will definitely not blast your favorite heavy metal tunes until they break your eardrums, but we’re talking restful tunes, played at a low volume, so the 1 Voice does the job it was designed to.

The 1 Voice Sleep Headphone Eye Mask includes a cable with the standard auxilary connector, and offers enough length to set your MP3 player or phone next to you on a nearby night stand. Depending on the position you sleep in, you might find yourself getting tangled up in the cord and knocking your device off of the table, but for a back sleeper such as myself, I had no such issues.

The 1 Voice Sleep Headphone Eye Mask would also be perfect for business travelers who find themselves trying to catch a few winks on the plane or train. It does a great job of blocking out ambient light and noise, perfect for while you’re traveling.

Finally, earlier I mentioned I enjoy listening to Jeff Bridges talk while I fall asleep. Unfortunately, Jeff doesn’t drop by every night for a White Russian and a soothing discussion, but the next best thing is available at the Dreaming With Jeff website. Here, you can either listen online or download audio of Mr. Bridges talking about, apparently whatever came into his mind, as well as an assortment of soothing sounds and restful noises. Try it. It’s also great for migraine sufferers like my wife.

Verdict

The 1 Voice Sleep Headphone Eye Mask is an excellent option for anyone who wants to block the outside world out while they snooze. The comfortable mask does a good job of blocking out ambient light, and the built-in speakers rested comfortably on my ears, with just enough volume and sound quality to work well.

(Pro tip, if you have a prominent nose like I do, wear the mask a little higher on your face. It goes against your natural impulses, but it works.)

If you’re looking for an aid to help you get to sleep, especially if you’re a day sleeper, you would do well to take a closer look at The 1 Voice Sleep Headphone Eye Mask. While some may find the accessory’s $49.95 price a bit dear, others will find it is a fine price to pay for a good night’s (or day’s) rest.

Pros

  • Does a great job of blocking out ambient light.
  • Very comfortable to wear.
  • Good sound.
  • No need for a battery.
  • Perfect for sleeping on a plane or train.

Cons

  • Restless sleepers could get tangled in the headphone cord. Maybe offer a Bluetooth option?
  • The volume could be better, but you likely don’t want the volume rocking your eardrums when you’re trying to sleep.
