Parallels has released Parallels Desktop 11 for Mac, a new version of their Mac virtualization software package. The new version offers support for OS X 10.11 El Capitan, Windows 10, and always-on access to Cortana, Microsoft’s virtual personal assistant.
Parallels Desktop 11 for Mac allows users to run Windows 10 alongside Mac OS X without the need for rebooting. The latest version offers a setup assistant for switching to OS X from a PC, Linux and Google Chrome support, advanced security features, and more.
The update also includes up to 50% faster boot up and shut down times, up to 15% longer battery life, (a new “travel mode” extends battery life by up to 25%), and up to 20% faster task performance. The company also notes that moving files between Mac and Windows is up to 5% faster, while virtual machines suspend up to 20% faster.
Parallels Desktop 11 for Mac is $79.99, and has a free 14-day trial available for users who like to try before they buy. Customers who own Parallels Desktop 9 or newer can upgrade for $49.99.
The company also announced the release of Parallels Desktop 11 for Mac Business Edition and Parallels Desktop for Mac Pro Edition, designed for business customers, developers, designers and power users. They both retail for $99.99 per year. They both include faster 64GB virtual RAM, with 16 vCPUs for each virtual machine, and extended premium 24/7 phone and email support.
