Apple’s Boot Camp Now Supports 64-Bit Windows 10

Apple announced on Wednesday that its latest version of Boot Camp, just released as a system update for OS X Yosemite users, now supports 64-bit versions of the Windows 10 operating system.

In a support document, Apple offers instructions for installing a fresh copy of Windows 10 via Boot Camp. The document also covers how to upgrade from previous versions of Windows. Users will be required to use an ISO file of the Windows 10 installation DVD to install the new OS.

The list of Macs that supports 64-bit versions of Windows 10 include:

• MacBook Pro with Retina display (13-inch, Late 2012 to Early 2015)
• MacBook Pro with Retina display (15-inch, Mid 2012 to Mid 2015)
• MacBook Pro (13-inch, Mid 2012)
• MacBook Pro (15-inch, Mid 2012)
• MacBook Air (11-inch, Mid 2012 to Early 2015)
• MacBook Air (13-inch, Mid 2012 to Early 2015)
• MacBook with Retina display (12-inch, Early 2015)
• iMac (Retina 5k, 27-inch, Late 2014 to Mid 2015)
• iMac (21.5-inch, Late 2012 to Mid 2014)
• iMac (27-inch, Late 2012 to Late 2013)
• Mac mini (Late 2014)
• Mac mini Server (Late 2012)
• Mac mini (Late 2012)
• Mac Pro (Late 2013)

Boot Camp 6 is currently rolling out to users, and may not yet be available in all areas. Users can check to see if the update is available for them via the “Update” tab in the Mac App Store.

Boot Camp 6 includes support for the following features of your Mac in Windows 10.

• USB 3
• USB-C on the MacBook (Retina, 12-inch, Early 2015)
• Thunderbolt
• built-in SD or SDXC card slot
• built-in or USB Apple SuperDrive
• your Apple keyboard, trackpad, and mouse

Apple earlier this week released a pair of minor Boot Camp Support updates for running 64-bit versions of Windows 7, Windows 8 and Windows 8.1.
