Hulu’s Snazzy New Apple Watch App Was Created by a Hulu Intern

Hulu’s new Apple Watch app is proving to be a model for other streaming apps to follow, due to its simplicity, and the fact that it doesn’t try to do too much. Interestingly enough, the app was created by a Hulu intern!

Macworld:

The new app doesn’t try to do too much. You can’t browse the Hulu catalog from the watch, but the assumption is that you’ll want to use a proper remote for that anyway. Once you have a video stream up and running, the Watch app lets you pause the current video stream, rewind in 10-second increments, and toggle closed captioning.

At the moment, the app supports Hulu  on the Xbox One, PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Chromecast, and via AirPlay streaming to Apple TV. When launching the app, it asks which device you’ll be using for playback, and the device can be changed at any time in the app’s settings menu.

Hulu says the app was created by intern Rahin Jegarajaratnam. He was mentored during the project by the Hulu iOS development team. Hulu says their intern program actively encourages interns to work on consumer-facing projects. Which is cool.

The company says it is working on “more updates and feature additions” and sees the app as “the perfect opportunity to explore the Apple Watch OS and experiment with ways to integrate the Hulu experience into the popularity of wearable platforms.” let’s hope they don’t try to add too many features, and screw up the clutter-free Apple Watch app.

The Hulu app is free, and is available in the iOS App Store. [GET IT HERE]
